Many Miles

As I near the end of the drive to see my sister tonight, my Tahoe crossed 213,000 Miles.

This vehicle has protected my two precious daughters on the road for over 8 years. It has transported me over the long haul as I have had the excitement of seeing cherished friends and family, celebrated weddings and holidays, suffered loss, walked through dark times, mended broken relationships and anticipated the beginning of new ones. This hunk of metal and plastic has faithfully driven my children to school to grow their minds, parties to nurture their friendships, and to church to connect them with the Lord. It has enabled me to get to work every day and build a life for myself and my family. It has hauled the nastiest trash and my most cherished memories. The Tire Pressure light has been on since I’ve owned it, there are dents and scratches, and it burns a little more oil than it should. But I am grateful for this vehicle! I do not look forward to replacing it.

It is not lost on me that these same qualities are what we need in our relationships - people who are there for the long haul. People who are grateful for us. People who keep us grounded but support us in pursuit of our dreams. People who are honest and turn on a warning light when required. People who love us, not despite our dents and scratches, but because of them.
