Twilight Hour

There is a particular moment between the time the children fall asleep and the time when a mama’s mind finally allows her to sleep.....in this moment the house is quite calm and very quiet (at times, too quiet).
This time is when mamas pray, plan, and allow ourselves to daydream. We work on ourselves to curb disappointment and to convert those thoughts to hope. This is when we assess who we are, clarify who we want to be, take note of the gaps, take pride in the wins, and settle into the journey.
In these minutes, we worry and hope for our children, we have gratitude for the gift of a life full of their love, and we experience the exhaustion of trying to get it all “right”.
We giggle to ourselves about things our friends have said, we smile because of our sisters, and we make emotional space for others.
I would guess that this “twilight” hour is when mamas are the most vulnerable and open - when we have the most clarity about what we want and need - when we likely feel closest to a higher power - when we most clearly see love.
These are the moments in the day which can be the most peaceful, calming, assuring, satisfying, scary, frustrating, or saddening. No matter which kind of night it is, I have found the following verse is appropriate:
“For in Him we live and move and have our being.” - Acts 17:28
